¡Fiesta Tigres! Detroit Tigers Honor Latino Contributions
 DETROIT—Brandon Inge was courting the media with his charismatic personality as he stood next to his locker in the Tigers clubhouse. Magglio Ordóñez was coming in from taking a shower as he towel-dried his famous locks, and Miguel Cabrera was stocking up on goodies. This was the scene as I walked into the clubhouse to interview some of the players for this special edition of Mi Gente Magazine.

Ozzie Virgil: First Latin-American Born Detroit Tiger 1958
 DETROIT—Fifty years ago, on June 6, 1958, the Detroit Tigers crossed the baseball color line when Oswaldo “Ozzie” José Pichardo Virgil became the first person of color to play for the team. He is credited as being the first Dominican to play Major League Baseball, debuting in 1956 with the New York Giants, and the first Latin-American Born to grace Briggs Stadium as a Tiger.

Remmbering the 1968 World Champion Detroit Tigers
 SAGINAW—About four years ago, after my mother had passed on, my sister Nancy and I were looking through an old trunk in the basement and found a 1968 pennant with a picture of the champion Detroit Tigers. I found myself remembering the excitement of the 1968 team.

 DETROIT—I saw a T-shirt the other day with bold white lettering asking the question: Got Maggs? And on the back the answer: We do, above the number 30.

Plácido Polanco, # 14 Detroit Tiger
 Consistency is a word associated with Plácido Polanco. The Detroit Tigers’ consistent hitter, who went the entire 2007 season without making an error, became the first everyday second baseman in MLB history to accomplish that feat. This, in addition to contributing to 101 double plays, earned Polanco his first Gold Glove award.
